Pikes Peak Flute Choir Rehearsals Begin!
January 17, 2012
The Pikes Peak Flute Choir will begin rehearsals for the spring concert on January 17, at 7:30 PM at the Prince of Peace Lutheran Church (Galley and Wooten). Bring your flute(s) and stand (and sight reading glasses) as we begin work on the “St. Francis Suite” for flute choir and hand bell choir by Kevin McChesney.

Paul Nagem recital

Colorado Springs Philharmonic principle flutist, Paul Nagem, will perform in a recital at Colorado College on Thursday, February 9, 2012, at 7:30PM.  The performance will take place at the auditorium in Packard Hall.  This performance is free and open to the public.

American Music Society Recital Series
February 12, 2012, 2:30 pm
The American Music Society will host a recital featuring a variety of chamber performances at the Beth-El Mennonite Church (4625 Ranch Drive). The Bedard Flute Sonata will be performed as a part of the recital. The performance will start at 2:30 PM and is open to the public.

First Christian Church Recital Series Concert

On Sunday, February 12 at 7:00 p.m., First Christian Church at Cascade & Platte is presenting chamber music played by members of the Chamber Orchestra of the Springs and friends.  Featured selections will include Notturno by Franz Schubert for violin, cello and piano; Trio for Flute, Oboe and Piano by Madeleine Dring; Tarantella for flute, clarinet and piano by Camille Saint-Saëns; movements from: Gabriel Fauré’s Quartet No. 1 for violin, viola, cello and piano; Sonata No. 3 for cello and piano by Ludwig van Beethoven; and the American Quartet for string quartet by Antonín Dvořák. A free will offering will be taken.


Canyon Winds Band Concert

The Canyon Winds Band, under the direction of Maestro Doug Downey, will be holding its Winter Concert on the evening of Thursday, February 23, 2012 at 7PM at Temple Beit Torah, 522 East Madison Street. The program will consist of a variety of musical selections, including marches, Broadway show tunes, classical melodies, and a surprise or two. The Canyon Winds Clarinet Ensemble will also be performing. Admission is free, but cash donations are always greatly appreciated. Attendees are encouraged to bring non-perishable food items for Care & Share. So come and enjoy an evening of musical entertainment.


St. Andrews Concert Series
February 29, 2012, 7:00 pm
St. Andrews Episcopal Church in Manitou Springs (Canon Ave. and Manitou Ave.) will present a concert featuring several small instrumental ensembles. The Trio for Flute, Oboe and Piano by Madeleine Dring will be performed, as well as a several duets for Japanese flute (Yuki Isami) and shamisen (Jim Bosse – guitar). Performance starts at 7PM, and admission is free (donations and non-perishable foods accepted).


CFA Flute Day in Boulder, Colorado

The Colorado Flute Association (CFA) will be hosting a flute day at Colorado University (CU) in Boulder, Colorado. The event will feature guest artist, Carol Wincenc, an acclaimed flutist who performs in orchestras worldwide and has commissioned and premiered pieces by many prominent composers. Carol Wincenc flute day in Colorado Springs

Renowned flutist Carol Wincenc will teach a workshop and masterclass in Colorado Springs on Sunday, March 11, 2012.  This workshop will take place at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church (Northwest corner of Galley and Wooten) from 1 to 3 PM.  The event is open to the public and will cost $30 per participant.  More information on how to register and applications for the masterclass portion to come.


First Congregational Church Flute Choir Service Performances
March 18, 2012, 9:00 and 11:00 am
The First Congregational Church (FCC) Flute Choir, led by Phyllis White, will perform at the choir’s home church (20 E. St. Vrain St.) during the 9AM and 11AM services.

Alto and Bass Flute Workshop

Prince of Peace Lutheran Church

Sponsored by the Pikes Peak Flute Choir, this workshop dealt with numerous aspects of playing the low flutes with one of the nation’s experts on the subject. Harmony flute players worked with Dr. Potter on technical aspects of their instruments (posture, breathing, tone, etc.). PPFC harmony flute members had sectionals. Dr. Potter worked with all flute players on the areas of air management, tone development, ensemble playing, and vibrato.
