I am originally from the Washington DC/ Annapolis, MD area. I graduated from the University of Maryland, earned my CPA license, and have worked for more than 40 years in the field of accounting. I played the oboe in middle school but had no musical involvement beyond that. I moved to Colorado Springs in 1997 and began playing the flute in 2003. I joined the Flute Choir in 2004 and currently play the C flute and the alto flute. I am also a member of the New Horizons Band of Colorado Springs where I play the oboe. I am still working and also volunteer in the food pantry at Ecumenical Social Ministries. I enjoy knitting, crocheting, reading, and spending time with my two daughters and six grandchildren. I have an overly sweet cat and a very self-absorbed dog, Edgar, who take up any spare time I might have.

I've been playing since forever. In High School, I had the opportunity to play in marching band which was a lot of fun. I went to Azusa Pacific Univ and played in band there. Doing the band tours in college was more fun than a person should have. I am a travel agent so I’ve have wonderful opportunities to travel to unique and exotic locations.  I recently returned from India which was very hot, but a great trip. I have traveled to Italy, Hawaii, Canada and Boston over the years with Beth Lewis, another PPFC member. I look forward to many more years with the group!

I tell my fourth grade students that it was in fourth grade that I began playing the flute. I then played through high school but then did not pick it up again until joining the choir in 1996. Back then, it was a much-needed night away from small children. The children have grown and I still enjoy the night out.

I’ve been playing the flute for two years. I began when I was nine. This is my first time playing with a choir. My flute teacher is Treese Kjeldsen. I can play the piano, but have not had any lessons. I am home schooled. I enjoy acting and I take acting classes. I have taken ice skating lessons and enjoy skating when I can. I have an older brother and sister and a younger brother. We don’t have any pets, but I am saving for a Siberian cat. They are very expensive and hypo-allergenic. I’ve traveled for vacations to California where my mom is from and to Illinois where my dad is from.

I have been playing the flute for 15 years. I am the Music Teacher at Soaring Eagles Elementary School, where I teach K-5 General Music and 4th-5th grade Band/Choir. I earned my degree in Flute Performance and Music Education from the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music. I grew up in Atlanta, and most of my family still lives there. While living in Atlanta I taught private flute lessons, and performed with the New Atlanta Philharmonic, Ludwig Symphony, and the Atlanta Wind Symphony. During high school I performed with the Atlanta Symphony Youth Orchestra and the Atlanta Youth Wind Symphony. In 2002 I was the Second Prize Winner in the Atlanta Flute Club’s Young Artist Competition. My husband Charlie is a Clarinetist in the Army Band, and we just moved to Colorado Springs in July 2009.

I first picked up a flute more than 40 years ago, and have enjoyed playing ever since. I loved marching band in high school but didn't play in college (Michigan State University didn't use flutes or piccolos in their marching band). I worked in pharmaceutical research in Indianapolis for nearly 30 years until my retirement in 2007. In Indianapolis, I played with the Covenant Symphony Orchestra at East 91st Street Christian Church and was a member of Wings of the Wind flute choir for 15 years. I also played with the Indianapolis Symphonic Band and the Praise Band at Park Chapel Christian Church. I gave piano, flute, and recorder lessons to inner city kids in Indy for two years. In 2008, my husband and I fulfilled our retirement dream of moving to Colorado where we enjoy hiking, biking, volunteer work, RVing, and traveling to visit family in the Midwest. I am a member of Sunnyside Christian Church and play in the Jubilee Bells handbell choir there.

C Flute, occasionally Piccolo, Alto Flute, and Bass Flute

I grew up on a strawberry farm in Oregon; when I was 14, I used the money I earned picking berries to buy a flute. I knew how to read music, and figured out how to play the flute from the fingering chart. This qualified me to play in our (small!) high school band for four years.  I then put my flute aside for about 25 years while I attended college, married, followed my husband’s Air Force career, and raised two children.  Then on a whim, I dusted off my flute, took some lessons and joined the flute choir. Playing the flute was the perfect counterpart to my own later-in-life career in computer science. (It’s impossible to think about workplace issues and count measures at the same time!) I’m now retired and besides playing the flute I enjoy traveling, outdoor activities, and (of course!) my grandchildren.

Originally from southern Indiana, I have a B.S. in Music Ed. from Indiana State U. and a M.A. Ed. from University of Phoenix. I currently play horn in the Pueblo Symphony. I am retired from teaching elementary music and art in CSSD 11, but teach after school art classes and sub. I am a potter and dabble in watercolor and acrylic painting. I love to travel, having been to several European countries as well as Costa Rica, Peru, Ecuador, the Galapagos, and Morocco. As I love to cook, I’ve picked up several great recipes, as well as art and music from each country. Next in the works is a cruise to the Mediterranean, especially the Greek Islands.

I have been playing the flute for 34 years, with little to no training other than the deep passion for music and the love of the flute. I was born in Virginia, but was raised in Colorado since 1970. I graduated from Doherty High School  in 1981. Doherty won the state championship in marching band where I played and marched at half time during the football game of the Denver Broncos vs. LA Rams in 1980. I am a licensed hair stylist, now retired as a state and national champion for 15 years of my career, but still dabble in various productions including hair and makeup for the The Colorado Opera festival, and several school productions.  I now work full time with my husband of 28 years running our photography business.  I am also the mother of two beautiful daughters, and enjoy their talents in music as well. My oldest plays piano and harp, and my youngest plays piano and inherited my love of the flute. They are both high honor roll students and very artistic as well.  Most of all they are wonderful loving people and we are very proud of them. I am a profound lover of cats and have two Siamese cats.  My hobbies include painting, sewing and gardening.

I played in high school till the school burned down – with my flute in the band room – took me 27 years to replace it!  I have played in various bands and orchestras over many years – too many to enumerate or even recall.  I was an Executive Assistant for my working years – gadzooks – 45 years!  I was born in Albuquerque, lived most of my life in Southern California.  I have traveled almost enough – Mexico, United States,  Hawaii, Ireland, Marquesas, Tahiti, Easter Island, Costa Rica, France, England, Netherlands. I would still like to take a really nice train trip somewhere and some nice National Park road trips.  I attend St. George’s Anglican Church and have done quite a bit of volunteer work since retiring in 2001, 3 days after 9-11.  Between us, Joe and I have 4 children,  7 grandchildren, and 4 great grandchildren.

I’ve been playing the flute for 27 years.  I was fortunate to find the Pikes Peak Flute Choir the week after I graduated from college – I’ve always had a place to play! I grew up in suburban Los Angeles and moved to Colorado in 1995.  My parents live in Colorado Springs, while my extended family lives in California and Oklahoma.  I have one younger brother who lives with his family in Indonesia.  I have a cat named Sam – he’s very entertaining, but isn’t quite sure what to make of me when I practice my flute. I attended Azusa Pacific University, a private college in Southern California. I was a part of the music department, playing in both the concert band and orchestra.  I also sang in Bel Canto (a ladies’ choir) and played in the handbell choir. I graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Liberal Studies (Elementary Education) with an emphasis in History.  I hold a Master’s Degree in Curriculum and Instruction with an emphasis in Gifted Education from the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs. I have been an elementary school teacher for 14 years.  I have taught third and fourth grades, and am currently an elementary gifted resource teacher. I love to travel!  In the last 8 years, I’ve been to Russia, England, Germany, Austria, Italy, Canada, Boston, Seattle, Hawaii, Oklahoma, and California. Besides playing the flute, my hobbies include scrapbooking and counted cross-stitch.

I’ve been playing the flute for 20 years. I’ve only been with the PPFC for a few months, but I’ve been with the First Congregational Flute Choir for 17 years, playing C flute, bass, alto, and some piccolo. I have a Master’s Degree in English and have been teaching English for 20 years. I’m a Colorado Springs fourth-generation native, and am proud to wake up to a spectacular view of Pikes Peak every morning. I have twin black cats which I adore, and the female, Cassie, loves flute music and will sit on the table and read music with me; the other, Orion, always runs when I practice! I love performing and hearing the group come together with harmony and dynamics.

I started playing piano in the first grade, and then switched to flute in the sixth grade and started playing piccolo in the seventh grade. While in high school, I played in the Youth Symphony of Kansas City, Missouri, Youth Symphony of Charlotte, North Carolina, and the Charlotte Symphony. I soloed with the Charlotte Youth Symphony. I also played in the orchestra for summer stock musicals, the circus and the Community Orchestra in Irving, Texas. After 35 years away from playing the flute, I started playing again last January. My husband retired three years ago, and we moved to the Springs to be close to our grandchildren. We have two sons and four grandchildren. I work part time as a court reporter and also enjoy playing tennis and traveling.

I started playing the flute in the 5th grade. I played through my freshman year in college before taking a 15-year hiatus prior to starting with this choir. I started taking piano lessons 2½ years ago also. This has been a wonderful addition to my life, but has cut drastically into my flute practice time ( Sorry Karen!). My day job is as owner/veterinarian at Dublin Animal Hospital. I graduated from CSU School of  Veterinary Medicine in 1991 and was lucky enough to enter a career field that I feel genuinely well suited for. Music is a great stress relief after spending my days attempting to solve the ills of the furred, feathered and scaled. In my free time I am an outdoor enthusiast. I enjoy running, backpacking, skiing and gardening. I am also an avid bicycle commuter (an occasionally daring adventure on the streets of Colorado Springs!) My family includes my husband Marcus, my 22-year-old daughter Shayla and my 19-year-old son Tsaaron. My daughter graduated from CU Boulder this spring and my son started at UNC in Greeley this fall, so we are officially empty nesters. We also enjoy the companionship of 3 dogs, 2 cats, an African Gray Parrot, a flock of chickens and 4 box turtles.

I began playing flute in elementary school but chose piccolo for high school marching band because it fit snugly in my pocket; plus, you can shoot a tic-tac halfway across the football field through a piccolo!  I continued flute at Colorado State University but set it aside as my studies in Business Administration and job at the student newspaper demanded more of my time.  After graduation, my husband and I moved to Colorado Springs where I worked in banking for a couple years, ending up as a branch manager before having my daughter in April 2008. I am  now a stay-at-home mom, spending my free time playing volleyball, gardening, cooking, and hiking.

I am a Junior at Coronado High School. I have played piano since I was 8 years old, and flute since I was 10. In Middle School I really took music seriously because I had an amazing teacher, so I actually practiced. I have not yet attended college but I hope to eventually have a doctorate in engineering and math. I have a cute and cuddly yellow lab named Rilla (after the Spanish word for yellow). I enjoy beading, listening to music, playing music, reading, and math. I have grandparents in England so I have been there several times and in 2006 we went to Spain and saw the Alhambra Palace in Granada. At the end of my Freshman year in High School I toured Europe as part of the Ambassadors of Music program. We visited England, France, Luxembourg, Italy, Germany, Austria, and Switzerland.

I started playing flute in 4th grade and continued through high school in concert and marching band. I grew up in New Jersey and went to college in upstate N.Y. I didn’t play much in college, but found the ad for the Pikes Peak Flute Choir in the newspaper while job hunting the fall after I graduated from Russell Sage College in Troy, N.Y. I believe I am the longest standing member of the choir having only taken off half a season while pregnant with my second child when it became too uncomfortable to play! I am a reading interventionist at Bristol Elementary and my family consists of my husband Richard, 16 yr. old daughter Madison, 13 yr. old daughter Brooklyn, dog Kiara, cat Stella, and gecko Skittles. My hobbies include sand volleyball, book club, teaching Sunday School, and hiking to include one 14-er a year.
